Eleven days ago, I wrote here that Tower Hamlets council had accepted a booking for an “Islamic Revival” conference that was being organised by Al Muhajiroun’s Anjem Choudary and which was to feature a live video-linked speech by Omar Bakri Muhammad. It was due to take place tomorrow.
When senior council figures were made aware of the booking, they cancelled it.
This morning, Anjem Choudary announced that he has a new venue. This is from his website
IMPORTANT NOTICE
New Venue: International Islamic Revival Conference 2010, Water Lily Business Center, 10 Cleveland Way, London, E1 4UF.
Due to the oppressive British regime, its local authorities and police, The Islamic Revival Conference 2010 has been relocated to the above address.
There will be a LIVE address by Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad AND from Sheikh Faisel to be broadcast at the new venue insha’allah.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Islamic Revival Team
The Water Lily is in Mile End Road and is based in what was the famous Wickhams department store. I have just spoken to the owner. He said he had had “loads” of phone calls from worried friends and neighbours. He said he had this morning been in touch with the police. Why? Because no such booking has ever been made. It is a complete fabrication, he said.
He told me: “In the past, we’ve cancelled some bookings from some of his other groups, so maybe he’s deliberately trying to annoy us.”
Looks like you’re just not wanted in Tower Hamlets, Anjem…
I spoke to them as well and was informed a banqueting suite had been booked for a foreign VIP guest ????
I’m glad to hear that Ted. I’ve just been on their website and while it sounds lovely, it makes no mention of who runs the joint! Who is the owner?
Ted I agree with you on this one. Most Muslims can not stand Anjum and his crowd, they ar eattention seekers, publicity hungry to sell their cause, and the damage they are doing to Islam and muslims is incredible, aswell as the damage to communty cohesion. But just as its hard to contain the BNPs and other neo fascists its the same with thes epeople. Muslism ignore them. Last Year they ran an event at the Brady Arts centre, and it was later Jerry relaised the Mistake he made. But how do you keep track of these people?
The LMC too has been abused by some crazy eleemnts. Anjum loves publicity, he has nxt to nothing followers. But nevertheless they shoudl be watched.
The imagery does look very militaristic. The planting of a flag is symbolic of the claim of territory. The image appears to show a contiuous lightning bolt from heaven into the man with the flag, suggesting that God’s will empower man to plant the flag and claim the territory.
I thought Islam was about being kind to other people rather than domination of the world.
Further to this, Islam is against idolatory, including the depiction of man. If it was a picture of a man praying, it woudn’t seem so strange, but this image…? of a single man as a giant…? Very strange.
When you listen to the music, it comes across like Christian monks.
The Counter looks ridiculous. I thought he was predicting the end of the earth.
This is a very strange organisation.
Followed your website link to this event and they have cancelled the Water Lily. There will instead be a press conference at a venue – to be given to those who phone the number in the morning.
That website looks very expensive. I wonder where they get their money from….
Ted – did you know the EDL were going to ‘attend’ this event? “Terry East London Brian” the commenter above was on the Casuals United blog. Excerpt below (refs to Collingwood Hall, council ‘No Place for Hate’ complaint etc):

Whilst everyone is going to be up in Preston or Nuneaton the extremist poppy burning filth are converging in the capital. Choudary, Izzadeen, Bakri (via satellite) & Co. will be holding a hate conference in East London.
We are binning Nuneaton after a couple of hours and getting as many available fellas (London, Essex, Surrey, Middlesex Divisions especially) back in time for early evening. The conference is on from 5:50pm to 10pm so plenty of time for an EDL/Casuals United invasion.
A lot of the London lot will be giving Nuneaton a miss for this and all the South Coast lads will be travelling back via London so reckon it will be a good turnout. Please message out via “firms” forums guys. Cheers

8. Complaints were made to Tower Hamlets about this conference under their “No Place for Hate” pledge, and Choudary confirmed that the location given (Collingwood Hall) is a fake.
I don’t believe that this conference is going ahead. It is just an attempt to cause civil disorder.

9. It’s definitely going ahead despite the council claiming it had been cancelled:

11. One thing about these MAC dudes…they have a wicked designer amongst them! It’s all part of what we are up against, they make their beliefs look all glam with fancy graphics! It does look professional. Hopefully down the line we can look equally as professional if not more so! You might think this irrelevant but I notice it.
In the meantime though…let’s work together and be just as sure and proud of our own culture and identity as they are of theirs! They think we are lost souls, let’s not prove them right!
