Just when I thought those Hitler Downfall parodies were becoming a bit passé, some genius has come up with a Lutfur Rahman/Tower Hamlets version.
It has Mayor Lutfur as Hitler ranting about the Boundary Commission’s proposal to drop the Banglatown ward name.
Lutfur’s Three Stooges, Gulam Robbani, Ohid Ahmed and Maium Miah, all get it in the neck for failing their master. And I love that at 2mins in Lutfur reveals one of the roots of his rage, that he will become a laughing stock on this blog, a blog run by a working class wannabe-upmarket-urban-rat-low-life.
Hat tip to the commenter Spike on the last post for alerting me to this. Enjoy it as a light-hearted piece for the holiday and in the meantime a Merry and peaceful Christmas to everyone.
Ted linking Lutfur to Hitler is low and no to mention typical of red wing extremist like you. If that video was of Josh or your friend Peter wonder what you and fellow cronies would say. Get over it the Bangladeshis are here to stay and will continue to be part of this county and poncy journalists like you will not push us out.
I found it funny – but he has a point…. that being if someone did a parody of Cllr Golds, or someone not Bengali then just like the word ‘racism’ being cheapened, so would the other word of ‘anti-semitic’ would have been banded about and prople up in arms and be in danger of being lower valued.
Look what happened with the whole graffiti in Hanbury Street.
I don’t like the mayor or his cronies, but this is the lowest blow, you have served. I had a lot of respect for your blog. I was wrong, your just another hater like them. No better. Tut tut.
Re the above comment – Yawn!
Great find Ted, well funny and started my Xmas of with laugh. Merry Xmas to everyone btw.
I thought it was actually quite funny.
They’ve made them of Hillary Clinton, Gordon Brown etc…bit stupid but harmless – if a little inaccurate (Lutfur is the last politician you could accuse of being embedded in Bangladeshi politics, he hasn’t even been there for about 20 years).
I think it is sometime Banglatown Labour chief James Frankcom (who himself also submitted to the commission a proposal to get rid of Banglatown) behind it since the YouTube account also hosts some ‘Liberty of Norton Folgate’ stuff which is his pet project.
If so, it’s a distinguished graduation from little-Englander Bangla-bashing on this blog!
This is just ridiculous. Not even funny ridiculous; someone clearly has a deluded idea about what humour is: it’s a surprising twist, not taking the piss, that’s stupid people’s humour, (also known as bullying/gratuitous meanness). Normal kids grow out of it by the age of 10. At the latest.
Serious, just stick to facts and exposes Ted. Couldn’t see the point of this vid TBH, esp as Helal Abbas and Rushanara Ali are campaigning to keep the name. Don’t really care either way, what’s the big deal if you keep it or if you don’t? to fight over petty stuff like that…well I thought that was what kids did and not people who are supposed to be looking after a £1 billion pound budget. Chill people, you’ll give yourselves blood pressure over nothing. Perhaps we should Americanise and number all our areas if names give such an emotional reaction.
Some of the posters above may not get the context-folks, nobody is really comparing our great mayor to Hitler. Downfall has been turned into a parody about all sorts of things. Have a look here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/6262709/Hitler-Downfall-parodies-25-worth-watching.html
And why don’t you try NOT to prove the point that the charge of racism is inappropriately used to protect the mayor.
I think it’s time that the Mayor and his crew are forced before a court to provide a factual base to this “crying Racism” whenever he fails to get his own way. In my view, it is undermining democracy and further causing hurtful division in Tower Hamlets. Smoke, mirrors and crying discrimination!
What a find! The creator of this surely deserves a medal for knowing their stuff and making my Christmas! LBTH Resident is quite right – it is such a shame the usual suspects are working so hard at their faux offence and collective sense of humour failures – but too bad! I think it is crystal clear that the creator is poking fun at LR’s hysterical, bellicose response to the Banglatown re-naming issue and is not suggesting that Rahman he actually is a National Socialist (and not even a Socialist Worker!) which would be ridiculous!
Jolly good show
I was trying to leave a comment on the Old Flo Post – but note that comments are CLOSED
I’ve just spotted this in the East London Advertiser – “Henry Moore’s ‘Old Flo’ withdrawn from Christie’s auction by Tower Hamlets”
http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/henry_moore_s_old_flo_withdrawn_from_christie_s_auction_by_tower_hamlets_1_1751218
Could somebody please explain to me why we are spending enormous sums of money on lawyers who can’t even establish the legal ownership of a statue before sending it to auction on the instructions of the Mayor?
Well I had a good laugh at this. In fact I played the video to nine dinner guests straight after the Queen’s speech on Christmas Day. All but two were TH residents and there was copious amounts of nodding and grunts of “that’s SO true”. It does a great job of distilling the last few months of politics in this wonderful city of Tower Hamlets. Sorry I mean borough.
I agree Brian. Mayor our Mayor could give the creator one of those pin badges he had made at huge expense.
At least Hitler stayed on in power without the Local Government Association moving in to run the place because it is so dysfunctional.
When they arrive in the New Year what do you think they will uncover? Now that will make a REALLY TASTY Lutfur Downfall video!
Phil, get a grip, man!
I won’t begin to explain why it’s so insulting to begin a sentence, even in jest, with ‘at least Hitler didn’t…’ – that’s fairly basic.
But you seem to have lapped up the line that the LGA is a ‘watchdog’ or the government, or ‘administrators’ or ‘commissioners’ that can be sent in when there’s a crisis.
It isn’t. It’s basically a trade union for councils, an umbrella organisation representing local government and elected by local councillors. They have no authority to do anything to the council. They gave no investigative powers whatsoever. This is no Doncaster.
I must say you’re not completely to blame here – uncharacteristically sloppy reporting in the ELA has furnished this misconception.
I think you may have overlooked the wording of the actual letter from the LGA which when you read it leaves a very strong impression that failure to appoint a head of paid service and following that declining to accept their offer of “support” (by providing one) would result in central government intervening “Dongnam Style”…
As the LGA letter says, the offer of support “has been brought about by the Department for Communities and Local Government bringing to our attention its concerns regarding the difficulty the Council is experiencing in making an appointment to the post of Head of Paid Service [chief executive]…. We are also aware that the Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, has expressed his concern about the on-going difficulties in making an appointment and the importance of the Council achieving a satisfactory resolution to the situation as soon as possible.”
I would have thought that ministers and government departments “expressing their concerns” to the LGA indicated that this recommendation (which is about as strongly worded as possible) was a last chances for LBTH to take the initiative before those ministers acted upon the concerns they have.
I think Phil meant the DCLG. Pickles does have the power to get us out of our very own pickle ie not having a properly appointed CEO. The DCLG can of course ask the LGA “do you know any mug who might be up for this?”
http://www.lgcplus.com/briefings/people/management/tower-hamlets-fails-to-appoint-chief/5053166.article?blocktitle=Latest-Local-Government-News&contentID=2249
Take a look at this which does suggest the LGA have been involved……
Oldford1 – it is the LGA acting as a proxy effectively for the DCLG, at their behest. The offer to help “has been brought about by the Department for Communities and Local Government bringing to our attention its concerns regarding the difficulty the council is experiencing in making an appointment to the post of head of paid service.”
Many councillors and officers actually look forward to this as the whole organisation is falling apart, in disarray and going nowhere. It has become totally dysfunctional which explains the permanently open exit door for senior officers who have given up (including Halsey). Lutfur’s assurance to the population at large that the council is in good hands with his senior officers and Halsey running it is now a joke – they have nearly all left already or about to.
it will be interesting because the LGA officers will not be beholden to TH for their careers and thus may be more willing to insist on proper processes (which have been missing for many months) for appointments and grants and may be more willing to investigate abuses in the recent past.
Interesting times. Happy New Year!
Aligning aspirations of the British-Bangladeshi community to the constructs of Hitler’s Nazi Germany is stupid beyond measure.
It’s easy to demonise muslims and jews (and even ‘blacks’) when it suits you or when the media decides to set them against one another. Also, it’s very typical to see Tower Hamlets petty politicking crowd thinking their tiny borough has such an important impact on regional politics (think again!)
It wasn’t muslims killing jews in Europe – it was European whites killing each other, which now, decades later resulted in a pre-dominant ‘Christian’ European Union, forcing jews into create Israel and consequently destroying lives in Gaza.
Maybe the local ‘whites’ in sunny Tower Hamlets should do some self reflection in 2013 and think about whether they’ve actually been any use to their country whilst sitting around getting ‘pissed in the pub’ for the whole of their miserable existences.
Your comments reveal that you have underlying racist feelings against the white minority in Tower Hamlets. Anyone with so much as a modicum of common sense can see the way Tower Hamlets is being run is turning into a national joke.
A joke affecting 200.000+ inhabitants and over a billion pounds budget at stake. A local electorate that the borough’s mayorship appeals to via Bangladeshi satellite TV channels which amounts to “vote for me. We share the same skin colour. I am from Sylhet like you. We are brothers. I will make sure you are looked after and do all right”.
How long before this borough is seen nationwide as 2013’s equivalent to the Liverpool and Lambeth of the 80s. If, and I feel it is inevitable unfortunately, that happens then it will take years to lift ourselves up and not be seen as a laughing stock.
You racist idiot.
The joke you speak of was one of the only areas nationwide to buck the trend and see GCSE results rise again this year. TH schools are the third best of London boroughs.
Children’s social services are nationally renowned.
One of the only authorities nationally to still provide free home care.
First living wage borough. EMA has been reinstated – unlike anywhere else. Council tax benefit cut absorbed rather than passed on to ratepayers like everywhere else. Council tax has been frozen yet again. TH won an award last month for being the cleanest borough in Britain. TH is building more homes than any other authority. Despite massive Tory cuts, only TWENTY FIVE compulsory redundancies in the whole workforce. No libraries closed (unlike Brent which closed six) and no children’s centres closed. Youth spending increased in real terms. Council performing high on all national indicators.
All of the above explain why DCLG cannot and will not interfere. Doncaster had been an utter mess for years, running appalling services and failing to achieve results (under Labour as well as the English Democrats).
Lutfur’s been running this borough for the best part of four years now. If he’s as bad as you say he is, how’s he doing such an amazing job?
Get a sense of humor in 2013.
Only following this blog for a short time its highlighted the corruption underling a lot of what Lutfur does.
Maybe what your saying is corruption under Lutfur is fine as long as we have clean streets and don’t have to pay extra in council tax.
What your saying is the reason why a lot of people in Tower Hamlets are happy with what they see, so don’t feel Lutfur is a problem. I was in that boat for a long time.
But how much better could TH be without all the nonsense Lutfur appears to allow and is involved with. It would be amazing… maybe lower council tax (fingers crossed)
Speaking about our taxes, council has made £100k out of court settlement with Aman Dalvi over the botched CEO position…. that’s our taxes put to good use then.
Lolita, In response to this post, in is indeed true that following the first world war, Hitler used the perceived humiliation of the German people to form a most brutal and despicable form of far right nationalism which led to murdering many millions of people, many due to religious faith or indeed disability amongst many discriminatory factors. The lessons from this brutal and unspeakable “racism” and mass murder led to the creation of the EU. The European Union in its infancy, regardless of the political belief about its future direction today, has been hugely successful in maintaining peace across Europe when you look from beyond this narrow lens of race and religion. It is the case that the “European white killing each other” (your words) and the geopolitical decisions that led to the creation of the Israeli state were beyond the influence of the peoples that make up the diverse and wonderful community that is Tower Hamlets today.
In relation to the “whites” (your worlds) in Tower Hamlets, I believe if I had collected a number of negative stereotypes, about another racial group or “non-white” people, to counter your assertion, and finished that attack with the words “for the whole of their miserable existences” I would be rightly condemned. It is unhelpful and insulting.
I know many people who remember WW2, many took arms to defend this nation and the wider world against the Third Reich to help create the freedom and better world we enjoy today. Indeed much of Tower Hamlets was attacked from the air during the Blitz, and after watching an excellent documentary this weekend about these attacks, yes! I can confirm that these people continue to be miserable through memories of loved ones mourned, many are older now so perhaps wonder “whether they’ve actually been any use to their counrty” (your words) while having a beer at their local pub.
My point for you is, I am sure you did not intend to insult an older person, who defended this nation and the principles of freedom and democracy that allows us to have this discussion on Ted’s blog, however this destructive and lose talk of race and religion is unhelpful and is hurting this community we call Tower Hamlets.
This generalization is insulting as it implies that the “local whites” (your words – I am not sure if you mean some or all) have very little value which will only serve to further divide Tower Hamlets. My point is that the politics or race and religion are destroying Tower Hamlets and deepening the division between communities. The aspirations of the British-Bangladeshi community is of great pride to Tower Hamlets and is a place where people can get on in life.
The people of Tower Hamlets are being let down by the politics of sectarianism, division and self-interest – this needs to End, so that all people, regardless of race, culture or religion are recognised as equal and valuable members of the wider community that makes up this place that many people call home.
Jhno: I work with a lot of ‘white’ people – some of my best friends are ‘white’ and I even eat their exotic ‘white’ food…
It’s not racism, it’s ‘equality’ as propagated by the majority of ‘whites’ within Tower Hamlets and wider UK.
Wapping: hats off to the WW2 fighters and freedoms, but in 2013 most ‘whites’ across the country think the UK is “a pile of sh*t” (100% their own words, not mine) and barely believe in anything worth believing in, have never fought for anything past voting for the new Christmas No.1 – who’s fault is that?
Go ahead – blame the P*k*s if you wish…
Lolita I know what you mean about folk moaning about TH and the UK going down hill. Without wishing to sound too corny by saying “some of my best friends are asian”: they really are. In fact my friends are almost exclusively asian. If I had a pound for every time they say “What’s happening to your country mate?” I’d be a rich man.
oldford1: Thanks for the character reference. I’ll let my asian partner of 10 years know. He will be suprised. You paint of picture of a borough where everything is perfect and how the council leaders have managed to make the feeding of the 5,000 seem like a cheap trick. How have they managed to achieve such efficiencies?
Oldford1: As I am sure you know the tidy borough award was for inspections made during the Olympics when Veolia flooded the borough with extra street cleaning teams. I am of no doubt myself that the Mile End part of the borough, where I live, is the dirtiest it has been for a long time – largely due to the council introducing charges to remove bulky waste.
You need to pull your finger out (of whichever orifice you’ve stuck it in) and start to DE-COLONISE YOUR MINDS.
