The Tory defection: a message from Peter Golds

July 30, 2011 by trialbyjeory

Peter Golds, the leader of the Tory group on Tower Hamlets council, has asked me to post the following statement on this blog in response to anonymous criticisms by various commenters.

This is the first time I have ever posted on this blog.

I post on other blogs but always under my own name. For those in public life to abuse others anonymously on blogs can have serious consequences – as can be seen by the current implosion of the career of Johann Hari.

As for Ash [comment number 5 here], you may study contributions but your woeful contributions suggest that you fail to understand any of them. As your jokes have been read, Cllr Maium Miah indicated who you actually are. Listening to the name he gave, it certainly falls into place, but then he might not be telling the truth.

I have never met Labour group leader Cllr Josh Peck outside of the town hall/civic environment.

Despite allegations of meetings, I have exchanged just two words with Rushanara Ali: “Good evening,” in November 2008 at the borough fireworks event.

So Ash, your “understandings” are mere trash.

Steve [comment number 3 here] seems more plausible, at least until you read him. Steve claims to be a loyal helper and worker. So loyal that he does not even know the surname of Shirley Houghton or first name of Phil Briscoe, or as we all knew last year, that they had moved in the summer and were celebrating the birth of their first child.

As for the Spitalfields by-election, I was helping Matt Smith as recently as last Thursday afternoon, as I now know, at the time of the “press conference” following up issues that we had discovered in that very by-election campaign.

Then Steve says I should be “trying to broker a deal with the Mayor”.

Well, Steve, as a loyal and hard working Conservative supporter, plugged into meetings and events, surely you were around when Tim and I reported back that we had been approached by Shiraj Haque, asked to visit his Clifton restaurant (where we accepted a glass of tapwater) and were offered a cabinet and adviser post in the Lutfur administration.

You will remember how this was greeted, you will recollect Cllr Miah, who was also present at the Clifton but having lunch, warning us to say no, and everyone else agreeing this. You will also remember that we all laughed at what Eric Pickles would have said had we accepted.

Perhaps you just were not around; perhaps you are not even Steve.

It is very sad that there is little comprehension by commenters on this blog that politics is confrontational, that elected people will have different views and opinions to other elected officials.

Is Ash or the rest saying that the Labour group in Westminster or Wandsworth should shut up shop and support the local Conservative administrations?

I hope not, for that is not what politics, either local regional or national, is about.

It is ridiculous to expect the entire borough should await every missive from Mayor Rahman because of his mandate of 23,500 votes. Yes, he has been elected, but he is accountable and contributors should understand that some support him, many do not and others will question his actions.

That is called democracy.

Well done Pete my boy for having the courage to come out and speak openly. This maybe the first time you ever posted on this blog as ‘Peter Golds’ but I would find it very hard to believe that you have not used various other names. It’s about time the rest of the bunch, such as Josh Pecks and Co did the same.

If Peter is to win friends, I doubt his got many in this borough, then my advice is for him to do the following:
    1. Stop whinging
    2. Stop attacking Muslims
    3. Stop working for Labour and start supporting his own party members
    4. Start to believe that not all Muslims dislike Jews or gays.
    5. Go out in the community and work with the residents and avoid sitting round in the Town hall sending and out useless members enquiries.
    6. Stop working with the right wing media.

These will be good enough for the moment.

Have you not heard the saying “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”?
Or is mini-me your real name?

    • on July 31, 2011 at 11:43 am trialbyjeory

There’s no evidence to say that Peter Golds has posted on this blog before. I’d recognise an IP address and his writing style – just in the same way as I recognise Mini-me’s language.

Cllr Maium Miah does not know who I am? So don’t mislead people by posting false statement. Toby said Cllr Maium has ‘explosive’ evidence which he will reveal in due course to demonstrate how the local conservative party really operated and what they really think of the local community. I don’t think Maium should do this; I’m not going to welcome this as people should have decency and common sense. Toby, rather than asking Maium to reveal past history why don’t you ask Ted to reveal the real story – Peter gold said he went to Clifton to meet Siraj Haque and had a glass of water?

    • on July 31, 2011 at 11:28 am Toby

The reason he only drank water apparently Peter Gould never trusts Asian food places. Would be good to know this is not true in an area where the vast majority of residents are bangladeshi

      • on July 31, 2011 at 12:00 pm Naomi

‘The vast majority of residents are bangladeshi’?

Acccording to the latest GLA figures:

White population in Tower Hamlets – 50.3%
        Bangladeshi – 33.5%
        Other – 16.2%

      • on July 31, 2011 at 12:41 pm Ash

You should have asked Ted to interview Mr Hoque to find out bit more about his past connection with Mr Haque. The truth is coming out. The rumour is Peter Gold met Mr Haque many times asking his help to convince Maium and others to stand as Tory candidate, others declined but Maim accepted when he was not successful getting Labour nomination.

      • on July 31, 2011 at 1:00 pm Toby

Thanks Naomi Campbell! You’ve discovered such an amazing fact. I guess my point remains the same.

      • on July 31, 2011 at 1:43 pm Watching from the sidelines

I think you will find that Cllr Golds has been quite open about not dining in take away restaurants having been heavily involved in environmental health and trading standards as a councillor in Brent.

He has openly told people that the conditions he found in Brent put him off for life and that is probably why is also a vegetarian and tee-total to boot.

Cllr Golds is a shrewd fellow. Accepting a glass of water from one of Mayor Rahman’s acolytes was by far the wisest thing to do. Otherwise you would also be claiming he took a free meal and then your argument would trundle on . . .

Come to think of it I’ve never seen Peter eat Pie & Mash either. What point are you making exactly?

    • on July 31, 2011 at 2:34 pm Amir Khan

Once again Ash could you do this in English? Who is is Toby? I think that Mr Golds has penned a fine repost to his detractors dealing in facts, times and places and not innuendo and supposition.

      • on July 31, 2011 at 7:31 pm Toby

Amir Khan what you have against Ash. I can understand Ash’s point despite any apparent weaknesses. I know your a high flying lawyer (working on probably a third floor building off Whitechapel road) and your English is super fine, but your attitude to Ash is tantamount to racism. Leave him alone and get on with the discussion about politics instead of focusing on someone’s ability to speak English well

    • on July 31, 2011 at 2:35 pm Amir Khan

Who is Toby? We are all dying to know.

      • on July 31, 2011 at 7:15 pm Toby

Question is who are you Amir Khan??

Your definitely not Asian so please do give us a clue??

      • on July 31, 2011 at 7:22 pm Toby

Iv spoken to a few of my Bangladeshi friends and they tell me Amir Khan originates as a Pakistani name more than bangladeshi. Secondly, iv spoken to a few solicitor friends and they tell me they havent heard of any solicitor by the name of Amir Khan. So obviously it’s a fake name. And secondly your tone and reference indicates you are not Asian. No doubt you could be one of the few names that come to my mind!

    • on July 31, 2011 at 5:29 pm Imran Khan

      Who is Toby/

      • on July 31, 2011 at 11:48 pm anon

Sorry, but are “Amir Khan” the solicitor and “Imran Khan” the solicitor, both of whom post comments on here the same person? Is that right?

And is “Amir Khan” here the same “Amir Khan” who posts comments under this name on other blogs? Most recently on Socialist Unity under ‘The Retirement of Salma Yaqoob’ (http://www.socialistunity.com/?p=8369):

        7. Hmmm. http://www.hurryupharry.org/labour-offered-salma-yaqoob-a-safe-labour-seat/

        Comment by Amir Khan — 30 July, 2011 @ 3:30 pm

        8. Sorry about a failure of this but do goe to Harry’s place. It’s all there.

        Comment by Amir Khan — 30 July, 2011 @ 3:31 pm

        9. #7 Can’t be bothered to look. Do you have any idea how long that story’s been doing the rounds?

Interestingly its main purveyor on here was the lovely Terry Fitzpatrick. And who did he end up embarassing by association?… I refer you to your next comment.

        Comment by Vanya — 30 July, 2011 @ 3:37 pm

It’s confusing – so are Amir Khan and Imran Khan the same person/solicitor?

  3. on July 31, 2011 at 10:59 am Watching from the sidelines

I find Cllr Miah’s defection odd considering I was sitting in his car and canvassing with him in Millwall AGAINST Lutfur Rahman on the night of the Mayoral election.

I also find all of this talk about Tories and Labour putting aside their opposition to help ‘the community’. Which? And for whom?

Politics has been abused in Tower Hamlets. It is interesting to note that since the 2006 local elections there have been 29 defections in the Town Hall – 4 councillors have defected 4 times in that period. It shows a shocking disregard for the wishes of the electorate.

    • on July 31, 2011 at 6:14 pm Imran Khan

      In English please?

    • on July 31, 2011 at 6:16 pm Imran Khan

If you are not sure of my last post I can dissect your last and put it into something resembling the English Language.

  4. on July 31, 2011 at 7:17 pm Amir

I have respect for Lutfur and would love to see him and Ohid return to Labour where they were unjustly pushed out. As for the other opportunistic power hungry shameless chameleons, they should all be banished to the village gutter where they belong. Lutfur is simply doing what he has to do to survive; worming out the weasels of TH politics to scrub his back side.

    • on July 31, 2011 at 9:32 pm Imran Khan

This is my last post for this evening because the tortured logic of Lutfur’s supporters is now almost beyond belief. Do you have any idea of what you have just written? If you do could you share it with us all?

      • on August 1, 2011 at 11:26 am Amir

My tortured logic is a an accurate reflection of the twisted reality in TH politics. You untangle if you want to, I’ll just enjoy the comedy.

  5. on July 31, 2011 at 9:58 pm Toby

Ted, why don’t you show the Muslim community that you are not so bigoted by giving all your Muslim followers a ramadan Mubarak message?

  6. on August 1, 2011 at 10:15 am Steve O'Driscoll

Imran Khan is a famous solicitor, of Pakistani extraction, who represented the family of Stephen Lawrence in their action against the Met. Amir Khan is a boxer of Pakistani extraction. Neither have anything to do with people posting on blog by a hack obsessed with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets

    • on August 1, 2011 at 3:15 pm Imran Khan

I am neither. Tell us, Oh Great User of the English language, why does one of my words fall foul of a generally recognised spelling?

  7. on August 1, 2011 at 10:10 pm watcher from the sidelines

As I have said I am watcher from the sidelines but this Imran Khan character is free to reassemble my comments as he so wishes.

I think they are clear enough all bar the fact I omitted the word ‘bizarre’ at the end of the second sentence.
