East End Life and extremism

April 17, 2011 by trialbyjeory

This story here ran on the front page of today’s Sunday Express.

In the article’s central thrust, you’ll see that Tower Hamlets Council’s East End Life has been carrying adverts for an “Islamic education centre” operated from a building at 32 New Road, Whitechapel, which is owned by Anjem Choudary’s elder brother, Yazdani.

The Centre for Islamic Services there involves Anjem. His brother has been the recipient of Government contracts worth more than £1million, I have been told.

Yazdani, who is more frequently known as Dani Choudary, has hired to work for him someone who was convicted of terror related offences in 2008. His name is Shah Jalal Hussain.

Tower Hamlets Council told me they made checks before deciding to run the adverts.

What sort of checks?

And it’s in today’s copy as well. Congrats Tower Hamlets.

Well done for getting a front page. This proves that all the mayoral candidates were right to create their dodgy dossiers.

      Seriously? That’s bollocks.

You seriously think that there would’ve somehow been different checks in place for adverts in East End Life if Abbas had been mayor?

Let’s not get petty – we need to separate the fact that East End Life has been running these adverts from the allegations that have been made about Lutfur.

Officers of the Council should investigate how this was allowed to happen and processes should be tightened up to prevent it from happening again. But let’s not pretend that having Abbas as Mayor would have prevented this as clearly something has gone wrong in the PR department rather than the mayor’s office.

And remember, these ads have been running since before Lutfur was elected

So Abbas did publish this extremist ad?

Funny how good old impartial Ted doesn’t draw attention to the fact that the council have blocked this guy from expanding his school…wouldn’t suit the narrative, eh?

Am not sure what you mean, Steve. It was I who reported that council officers had refused planning permission using delegated powers (fyi, it was because they felt the area could not afford to lose any business premises). Also, not sure what you mean about narrative: I certainly don’t think Lutfur asked for these ads to be carried, if that’s what you mean. My wider argument would be that there is always a risk that these things can happen when a council newspaper is allowed to carry adverts to make revenue. And, I guess, yes, there should have been more checks carried out by the Communications department on the nature of the CIS, given it was new organisation. I wonder if the council made the person booking the ad sign its “No Place For Hate” pledge, for example?

For information. The two areas the Executive Mayor has no control over are planning and licensing.

A lie is around the world before the truth can get its boots on.

I don’t know if the ad was placed under a previous administration and so far we have no evidence that it was.

The current head of all media is a direct Lutfur appointee and this blog has previously alleged that Lutfur spends a lot of time with that gentleman going over every single article that appears, something he has never challenged.

Tower Hamlets under this regime is becoming more and more a laughing stock. As regards post #3 it is impossible to separate this particular allegation from any of the others that have been made because because neither Lutfur or any of his apologists here will actually deal with the very specific allegations that have been made.

I couldn’t see the article through all the pictures of Kate Middleton.

  8. on April 18, 2011 at 11:48 am George

    @whitevanman

It is a specific allegation and one which is easily verified if you want to – just find yourself back copies of East End Life from mid 2010.

George, don’t waste your time – “whitevanman” is a cover for Terry Fitzpatrick. Convicted of racially aggravated harassment. Not worth listening to and should be given no platform.

    • on April 18, 2011 at 11:32 pm Steve

Yep, funny how Ted is only too happy to pick up on negative news stories about Muslims. Terry gets convicted of being a racist and not a pip from him. Also interesting to note that Terry used to write for that notorious anti-muslim blog Harry’s Place, which Ted links to on this blog hmm….

      • on April 19, 2011 at 10:09 am trialbyjeory

Steve, if you think this story is anti-Muslim, then I’m really worried about you.

        Tankhs for de diagnoshis Doc!

  10. on April 18, 2011 at 11:36 pm Steve

Ted, do you or have you ever written articles or posted comments on Harry’s Place blog?

  11. on April 19, 2011 at 8:50 am whitevanmanlondon

Hamlet, you have got that one wrong.

  12. on April 19, 2011 at 10:06 am hamlet

You are Terry Fitzpatrick. No point anyone commenting here, with you given a platform.

    • on April 19, 2011 at 10:12 am trialbyjeory

Hamlet, unless you disclose your identity, then I really don’t think you have a leg to stand on. You could be Anjem Choudary for all I know. As for Terry Fitzpatrick, his sentencing hearing is next month and I’ll comment after that.
