Tower Hamlets council’s former interim chief executive and ex-social services director Ian Wilson once told me that Sirajul Islam was the best councillor he’d worked with during his long career in local government. He’s also a Liverpool fan, which proves he’s definitely clever.
Here’s an interview he’s just recorded with Emdad Rahman.
What he doesnt say is how much respect he has lost in the party after deciding we are told to accept payments to fund lawyers for the Labour party from [NAME REMOVED FOR LEGAL REASONS]
Its sad – he stands no chance of winning the vote – but has lost every decent friend he ever had in politics for a brief moment in which Lutfur will befriend him for convenience’s sake and then he will spit him out again. It is Siraj’s fault, but its a shame. He has lost everything!!!!!!!!
If you have a desire to be bored to death here’s your candidate blah blah blah etc you know obvious statements. Does he really want the job?
What matters is the respect you have from the electorate. As a constituent of Mr Islam, I can say that I find him to be one of the most impressive councillor we have. Many of the others cant even speak English properly. I am not a member of the Labour party, but if he is selected, then I will not hesitate to vote for him.
What matters in this election is that you are the candidate of the Labour party. Although not particularly relevant in this election remember the great majority of the electorate won’t know him like you do, Jayson, never met him never seen him do anything so how to you gain respect of the electorate? Only if you can present your CV well in the campaign. I don’t like to see good people waste their opportunities on skills that can be trained. He obviously did not present well to the second Labour party selection panel so there might be an issue here holding him back. He should get the feedback there.
Please dont lecture me about the Labour party selection panel, after the farse they’ve created, ive lost all respect for them.
No, what matters is in fact whether you can win the Mayoral election. Simply saying ‘what matters is that you are a member of the Labour Pary’ is nieve and short-sigted. A lot of people support Diane Abbot for Labour Leader, though could she win an election with her views? Highly unlikely.
As for your concerns about people not knowing him, I didnt know him until I met him! And that’s why we have an election campaign and hustings. Did you know who Barack Obama was in 2007?
